That sound you hear is the death rattle as corporate entities decide to pass on the cost of health insurance to someone other than their customers. Why should companies like Darden (Olive Garden), Poppa John's and others raise prices to cover the cost of mandated health insurance when there are easy ways of avoiding the tax?
Walmart, the nations largest private employer, plans to begin denying health insurance to newly hired employees who work fewer than 30 hours a week, according to a copy of the companys policy obtained by The Huffington Post.
Under the policy, slated to take effect in January, Walmart also reserves the right to eliminate health care coverage for certain workers if their average workweek dips below 30 hours -- something that happens with regularity and at the direction of company managers.
I suppose if there is a Target nearby prospective employees could stitch together two part time jobs to earn enough equal to one full time job.
Or they could just say screw it and let the taxpayer provide them with subsidized housing, food stamps, and so forth. They probably would have a better standard of living that way.
Walmart is effectively shifting the costs of paying for its employees onto the federal government with this new plan, which is one of the problems with the way the law is structured, said Ken Jacobs
Actually Ken, that is not right.
They are shifting the costs from the customer to the TAXPAYER.
Walmart likely thought it didnt need to offer this part-time coverage anymore with Obamacare, said Nelson Lichtenstein, director of the Center for the Study of Work, Labor and Democracy at the University of California, Santa Barbara. This is another example of a tremendous government subsidy to Walmart via its workers.
No, it is the stupidity of the government in creating the INCENTIVE for Wal-Mart and other businesses to take advantage of a taxpayer bailout.
For the amount of money we pay, you would think we could elect smarter folks in Congress but instead we keep electing and re-electing hicks from the sticks that have no clue how to run a country or a business.
